FAQ
What is BMR and TDEE?
BMR (basal metabolic rate) estimates calories your body burns at rest. TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) multiplies BMR by an activity factor so it reflects typical daily movement and exercise.
Why use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation?
It is a common, evidence-based estimate for adults. Individual metabolism still varies with muscle mass, genetics, stress, sleep, and medical conditions.
Why are loss and gain modes set to about 500 kcal per day from TDEE?
Many plans use a 500 kcal daily deficit or surplus as a starting guideline, often linked to roughly half a kilogram per week alongside the rough rule that about 7700 kcal corresponds to one kilogram of mass. Your results will differ.
Can I enter pounds and inches?
Yes. Pounds and total height in inches are converted to kilograms and centimetres locally before the same equations run.
Is this medical or dietitian advice?
No. The page gives educational estimates only. Pregnancy, eating disorders, chronic illness, medications, athletes, and anyone under 16 should get personalised advice from a qualified professional.
Why is age capped from 16 upward?
These adult BMR formulas are not meant for younger children and teenagers, who have different growth-related energy needs.
